The man in this image represents Narcissus from the myth. I think it is him staring at his reflection because in the myth he is describing what he is seeing. "He cannot move, for so he marvels at himself, and lies with countenance unchanged, as if indeed a statue carved of Parian marble.'' This is saying that he is so in awe of himself that not even a beautiful lady could distract him from his own beauty.
